The Belarusian authorities still cannot forgive Poland for Kalinouski Programme.During celebration of the jubilee in Warsaw University, the director of the programme for repressed Belarusians, Jan Malicki summed up the results of the 10 years of its activities, Radio Racyja reports.
According to the scientist, it is not unimpressive that 274 persons have finished the programme successfully:
– 274 diplomas plus one doctoral thesis is a fair amount. And the fact that many people didn’t finish the programme, does not really matter, as firstly, many of those who start studies in Poland, do not finish them. And secondly, especially during the first enormous admission of students, most of them were not prepared for studies in Poland, and didn’t finish the programme. And from the moment when I introduced a qualifying commission, it was getting better with every time.
Jan Malicki noted that assistance to people who participate in the Kalinouski Programme is a matter of honour for him, however he really regrets he is banned from entering Belarus:
– I still cannot visit Belarus, and I had never visited your country over these 10 years. Last time I was there in December 2006, and had never visited the country since then, but I would like to go there very much. It is a country which is close to me, and I visited it many times previously. Now I am waiting for it very much.
Jan Malicki also recalled that the decision to launch the Kalinouski Programme was adopted in one day, which created a precedent in the history of the Polish state.
The programme was opened after the events in Minsk after the presidential elections – 2006, when hundreds of Belarusian students were expelled from Belarusian universities for participation in protest rallies against rigged election results.
