Belarus wants to normalize relations with the United States on mutually beneficial terms, president Alyaksandr Lukashenka at Wednesday’s meeting with U.S. Charge d’Affaires Scott M. Rauland.
“We realize that we will not be able to have a full-fledged foreign policy until we normalize relations with the United States. We do not hide our intention that we want to normalize the relations with the United States on mutually beneficial terms,”state-run news agency BelTA quotes Lukashenka asy saying.
During the meeting, the Belarusian admitted that not everything is well in the U.S.-Belarus relations, but stressed that ‘they are much better than they were’ and expressed hope that the countries ‘are moving in the right direction’.

According to Lukashenka, Belarus has certain commitments to its strategic allies and partners (Russia, China and India and neighboring countries). At the same time, he noted that there were no such commitments to other states that would go against our cooperation with the United States.
“Even Russians say that it is absolutely necessary to have normal relations with Western Europe and the United States. I will reiterate that if there is the goodwill on the part of the United States, we will be able to address any problem,” Lukashenka promised.
Scott Rauland is to leave Belarus on July, 8. He has been Chief of U.S. Mission to our country since July, 2014.
